DODISKE: Empowering the Future

Who we are

We are a nonprofit charitable Organization dedicated to supporting, mentoring, and empowering underprivileged children to acquire adequate education - a path that connects them to their dream of a brighter future. The organization works in collaboration with well-wishers to raise both awareness and funds for this noble cause. Since inception, we have helped numerous children in Kenya with tuition – children who would have otherwise had no such opportunity for lack of finances.

Our Why

In the lives of underprivileged children, inspiration isn’t just important—it’s transformative. Every child, no matter where they come from, carries within them the potential to learn, grow, and achieve. By opening the doors to quality education, we provide more than just lessons; we offer a chance to break free from the cycle of poverty and step into a future full of possibilities.

Imagine a classroom where the spark of curiosity is nurtured, where children’s imaginations are encouraged to soar beyond their circumstances. Teachers, mentors, and entire communities play a pivotal role in guiding these young minds, helping them realize their true potential. With each lesson learned and every challenge overcome, these children are empowered to rise above the odds stacked against them.

When we inspire children from underserved backgrounds, we don’t just help them grow—we give them the power to change the world around them. Education becomes the most potent tool, one that not only shapes personal futures but transforms entire communities. It’s a promise that no child, regardless of their background, will be left behind.

This journey is one we can take together. Your support helps light the way for these children, turning hope into action and dreams into reality. Join us in making a lasting difference.

About Dodiske

Dodiske was established and registered in July 2024 in the State of Louisiana, USA. It was founded by Rev. Fr. Michael Thang'wa, whose vision was sparked by his own experiences growing up in a community with limited resources. He saw firsthand the struggles that many children face, from lack of access to quality education and basic needs, to the emotional toll of growing up in poverty. Driven by a deep desire to make a difference, Fr. Mike, as he is often called, launched Dodiske as an avenue to provide children with the opportunities and support they need to not only survive but thrive as well. Even before the inception of Dodiske, Fr. Mike has been helping poor and needy children with tuition and medical fees since 2000. Why the name Dodiske? Dodi means "well-loved," "gift," or "my beloved" (in Hebrew) and exudes a sense of warmth and affection. It is often used in the Book of Song of Songs to express love. Fr. Mike also interprets Dodis as an acronym for "Do One Deed In Service." This emphasizes the impact of small, intentional acts of charity and service for the sake of children. Whether it is donating money, clothes, tutoring, or organizing a community fundraiser, each act can significantly improve a child's life. These gestures provide not just material support but also hope and encouragement. The name Dodiske, therefore, reflects our mission to share love with needy children and young people. KE are the first two letters of Fr. Mike's country of origin, Kenya. At Dodiske: We believe that children are 100% of our future. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to receive a quality education, regardless of their financial background. We aim at creating a conducive and supportive environment for the education of underprivileged children. We are committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by providing educational support and resources to less fortunate children - empowering at least one needy child at a time to reach their full potential. We will embark on providing essential life skills and services such as after-school programs, mentorship, advocacy, and scholarship opportunities - through donations, volunteer efforts, and partnerships with schools and local communities. In a nutshell, our focus is on promoting the wellbeing of children by providing resources for quality education. By focusing on their needs, we seek to foster a sense of belonging, community and compassion. What began as Fr. Mike's dream and passion project has now taken a step forward toward a far-reaching impact, touching the lives of children in need - one child at a time. Encouraging others to join in amplifies the impact, creating a network of care and support. Ultimately, doing one deed in service will produce the desired fruits of empowering children, brightening their future – uplifting the next generation. This paves the way for these children to be agents of positive change in the society and the world at large. Our team is committed to making a meaningful impact and offering education opportunities to needy children. Since we cannot achieve this goal alone, we reach out to you to support this noble cause. Your donation will uplift a child for good. Help us empower children through education!

Our Story

Every website has a story, and here is ours. My Story: Beneath the Ashes, a Spark I still remember my, and my siblings, time in elementary school in Mitahato village, Kenya. The peeling paint on the walls, the broken desks, windows without panes, and classrooms full of children in somber mood and too tired or hungry to focus. I left home to go to school without breakfast, my uniform worn thin, my school supplies in meager supply or nonexistent altogether. My eyes held a quiet determination, but my struggles were undeniable. Despite this, I went to school – eager to learn, hopeful for something better. I did my best and excelled in class – not ignoring the challenges at school and poverty at home. I was among children with enormous potential that was falling behind, not because I lacked intelligence or drive, but because I lacked resources. Many children in my neighborhood lacked education opportunities because of poverty. Nonetheless, my parents tried all they could to see my siblings and I through school. We are now able to live a much better life than we grew up in. In the year 2000, when I was in the most testing time of my life, something unusual happened. A flashback of challenges I faced in elementary school, and the struggle my parents were going through to pay school fees and put food on the table, came to mind. I thought of many children in my village who were not going to school. I was saddened by this. As days turned into months, I struggled with the idea of how I could help. I could not stand by and watch the light of these young minds dimmed by circumstances beyond their control. I felt a great urge to do something to help at least one child. And so, I started helping one of the children in my village, and then two, and then the list continued to grow. I wanted to make a difference, although I did not have enough to take care of myself, let alone help others. I did not have a reliable income at that time. The desire to help grew; the dream of starting an organization geared towards helping underprivileged children was lit. (I confided with my sister that one day I will establish a home for poor children or a pediatric center). It took twenty-four years for my dream to go a full cycle – Dodiske was born! And although I am yet to establish a home for underprivileged children, the seed that was planted two decades ago has sprouted and bloomed into a beautiful flower that is giving underprivileged children the sweet aroma of renewed hope for a brighter future. One Small Step, A World of Difference It started with a simple step—giving a pencil and a writing pad to a needy child, tutoring another, and encouraging another who was not interested in going to school. Then came a handful of volunteers, a few old books, and an unwavering belief that every child deserves a chance. Then, small donations came, someone gave a stack of new notebooks, another provided a box of pencils, a generous donor gave a scholarship to one of the children. Each small act of kindness built upon the last, transforming lives in ways I (now a Catholic priest) had only dreamed of. What began as ‘giving help to one child’ has grown to become an organization. The Power of Your Support Today More children are desperate for support. Parents are hopeful that their kids will escape the cycle of poverty that has gripped their families for generations. Dodiske provides such children with scholarships, mentorship programs, school supplies, and technology. Most importantly, we encourage children to learn, to dare, to dream without limits. We give them a chance for quality education – to start their journey into a future they never thought possible. Kids who once struggled to read are now excelling. Students who thought college was out of reach are now hopeful. Dreams that once seemed impossible are now within grasp. But there are still more children waiting. More classrooms in need. The future of many children hangs in balance. Be a Part of the Story More than just our story, it is the story of tens of children who now have hope and a chance at a brighter future – because beneath the ashes, a spark was kindled into a large, blazing fire. Together we can pass the flame: we can inspire and empower. I invite you to be part of the story. Support us! Donate to Dodiske! Be assured that your support is more than a donation – it is a lifeline. It is a book in a child’s hands, a mentor’s encouragement, a path forward where there was none before. It is hope. Will you be part of this story? Will you help us rekindle the spark of an underprivileged child? Donate today. Give children hope. Change a life!
